Cuil New Search Engine

“Cuil won’t divulge the formula it has developed to cover a wider swath of the Web with far fewer computers than Google. And Google isn’t ceding the point: Spokeswoman Katie Watson said her company still believes its index is the largest.

After getting inquiries about Cuil, Google asserted on its blog Friday that it regularly scans through 1 trillion unique Web links. But Google said it doesn’t index them all because they either point to similar content or would diminish the quality of its search results in some other way. The posting didn’t quantify the size of Google’s index.

A search index’s scope is important because information, pictures and content can’t be found unless they’re stored in a database. But Cuil believes it will outshine Google in several other ways, including its method for identifying and displaying pertinent results…..” Cuil.com

“A system of sirens would sound a warning throughout Cumberland, Clinton, Monroe and Russell counties in the event of a failure at the dam, which holds back Lake Cumberland. The sirens also can be used during times of severe weather and other emergencies.

Wolf Creek Dam is undergoing repairs by the Army Corps of Engineers to halt erosion around its base.

Plans call for 16 weather sirens to be placed in the area. Eight sirens will be installed in Cumberland County, five in Russell County, two in Monroe County and one in Clinton County. The sirens are designed to be audible for as far as four air miles.

for more information visit Kentucky-Insurance.com
The warning system is one of several actions taken by Governor Fletcher on behalf of the affected counties since the Corps of Engineers disclosed that the dam was eroding. Failure of the dam is considered unlikely, but Fletcher directed the enhancement of reverse 9-1-1 emergency dispatch systems and distributed weather radios to households….” from Kentucky Insurance Journal

Homeowners Insurance, Consumers misinformed …..

Tuesday, June 5th, 2007

“The NAIC survey found that 33 percent of U.S. heads of household, who own a home and have homeowners insurance, incorrectly believe flood damages would be covered by a standard homeowners or property and liability policy, despite extensive media coverage on Hurricane Katrina victims whose claims were denied because they lacked flood insurance.

“Many homeowners learned the hard way that their insurance policies did not provide flood protection,”….” Homeowners Insurance

How Accurate are Zillow’s Zestimates?

Wednesday, February 21st, 2007

Apparently Zillow offers fairly accurate estimates on the market value of your home.

In the year since its launch, Zillow Inc. has made millions of Americans familiar with computer-generated estimates of home values, created a new online addiction and become a staple of dinner-party chatter.

But just how accurate is it? A Wall Street Journal analysis of 1,000 recent home sales shows that Zillow’s “Zestimates” often are very good, frequently within a few percentage points of the actual price paid. But when Zillow is bad, it can be terrible — off the mark by more than 25% on one in 10 homes. In one case it was off by $2 million.

Zillow, based in Seattle, operates a Web site that offers free estimates and other online tools for real-estate buyers and sellers. It draws revenue from online advertising. from:

taxes, personal finances,

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

Taxes, it is that time of year …
“When it comes to complex tax issues, like buying and selling assets, major life changes and running full-blown businesses, you are apt to end up with a more accurate tax return when you consult a tax professional.

However, for routine tax returns, where your financial activities are the same year after year, online filing and boxed software is heaven-sent. The questions are designed to jog your memory about things like additions to your family, IRA contributions, ages of family members and sales of stocks. You’ll find help tools in the programs, or you can reach help centers during tax season — though it might take up to 48 hours to get responses……” Taxes, Personal Finance

State asks judge to reverse ruling …

States Asks Judge to reverse ruling on Health Care …..

“The Kentucky Office of Insurance has asked a judge to reconsider his decision to allow a Christian-only health care plan to continue operating in the state.

Other states recognize Medi-Share as insurance and subject it to stricter regulations, attorneys for the Insurance Department argued in a motion filed Friday in Franklin Circuit Court. Judges in Montana, Illinois, Wisconsin and South Dakota have held that Medi-Share is an insurance program subject to those state’s regulations, Insurance Department attorneys said…..” more from Kentucky.com
